Thanks for encouraging us to do some FIU projects, Pat! That's a resolution for me this year. I think I'll start by finishing up my I Believe. I have to finish a bit of applique and then quilt and bind.

What a NICE note Jenn and I'm SO EXCITED you are ready to start! I have several helpful books for new quilters. They are written as lessons.

-I can't believe I'm quilting
-Machine quiltling
-Take the fear out of color
-Learn to applique - which is machine applique.

Hey Pat,

Firstly I must say that my loving boyfriend bought me my very own sewing machine for Christmas this year. My original intention was to work with felt, as after years of hand sewing, I just can't stand it anymore. With the need for a larger bedspread as well I thought it might be fun to take up quilting... it doesn't seem that bad I thought. So for the basics I headed to the great thing called the internet. I came across some great websites, but a lot of the technical terms were new to me and I was a bit confused. So I thought maybe YouTube might be able to help. That's when I came upon a video of yours, I found it so helpful and you mentioned this great site of yours at the end. I just had to check it out. After reading through most of the site and watching all of your videos you have posted in the Podcast section, I feel that I am better prepared to take on this challenge. Next step? The fabric store. Thank you for making all of this information available, you have eased the way for a newbie quilter.

Rose...
I started the machine quilting workshop on my blog July 1, 2007 (maybe you can tell the host of about to modify the link with this one).

Click here to start, then you'll need to progress through the month to read everything.

My daughter loves to get the quilts I make for her and both she and I were fascinated when we first saw your designs at Quakertown Quilts. Then I read on the About.com Forum around the middle of 2007 that you were starting a class on your blog on how to free motion machine quilt; she said that participants had to get a top, batting and backing basted in order to learn with you. Can I stil find these instructions? I read today your clear instructions on machine quilting (Thank you!), and wonder if you also taught how to move the quilt to get non geometrical quilting lines. I'd love to learn.

Pat, thank you for all your wonderful designs, and all the fun quilters and their families and friends get on your account. ROSE

My Farmer's Market quilt is made with about 5 different lines from FreeSpirit... along with an extra bit here and there (like the light strawberry is a square from a package of that print in different colors.. but I don't know who it is from)

Hope that helps!... pat sloan

I've got a queen log cabin all pieced and quilted and have even slept under it - but no binding yet. That's what I've committed to finishing. AND - it's for my sister.

Wow, I have SO many things to choose from as my Finish It Up project! Let's see ... I have a set of four placemats that I've been "working on" (off and on) for a friend for several years now. They're pieced and appliqued, just need "birthed" and quilted. So that's what I'll do. Might even finish them in time for her January 9th birthday!

Pat,

Your redesigned website is super, very modern and easy to navigate. Quite intrigued by the book club and would love to support you, however if I order through the US I have to pay a lot of shipping charges, so I will order through Amazon.ca. Hope this still gets counted. Louise

Wow! How lucky are you to have George in your life--I'm turning green...

Your challenge will give me the incentive to finish up a Christmas throw I started but didn't finish in time for the holiday decorating. I've kind of lost interest in it, but it would be great to finish it now so it's ready for 2008 Christmas.

Happy New Year to you and Greg!

Pat, Would you pls post another layout when all of the blocks have been posted? I haven't been working on this one yet but don't want to forget where everything goes in the end. Thanks.

Gina in PA

I'll start it off. I have 2 santa wall hangings that I have to take to family in Allentown(where I am originally from). One needs the binding and the second has to be quilted and binded. I am going to head over to Pat's tips right now and see how to do bindings her way.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!!
Gina
